About the Chorus
The Seneca Soundwaves Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, the largest women’s singing organization in the world! Our mission is to learn and share the art of singing four-part a cappella harmony in barbershop style. The chorus is now a part of Sweet Adelines International’s Greater NY/NJ Region #15 which is newly realigned effective May 1, 2013, to include 8 incoming choruses from Lake Ontario Region #16 for a total of 23 choruses from New York and New Jersey.
Our chapter was formed in 1995 by four women who loved to sing and decided to start a new Sweet Adelines chorus in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region. Today, Seneca Soundwaves has members hailing from all over the Finger Lakes as well as Monroe, Livingston and Wayne County. Our chorus membership includes women of all ages and backgrounds. All of our singers love the opportunity to improve our singing skills, perform in the community and at regional competitions, and enjoy the fun and fellowship of learning together.
Under the direction of Elaine Macrillo and Dawn Crane, we are very active performing in the community for all sorts of events including the moonlight strolls at Sonnenberg Gardens to Singing Valentine Greetings to Holiday concerts. We also take part in an annual a cappella harmony camp for budding young singers.
We welcome women who love to sing at our regular rehearsals any Saturday morning at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 320 S. Pearl St., Canandaigua, NY at 9:30AM for an morning of fun, fellowship and song! Bring your friend, your sister or your cousin! Let your voice be heard! Catch our Wave!
The year 2016 brings a new leadership to Seneca Soundwaves Chorus. We now will have Co-Directors, two very competent musical leaders teaching and training our chorus members and guests in the craft of four part a cappella harmony. Elaine Macrillo will continuing her service as Director and is now joined with Dawn Crane, her previous assistant director.
Elaine Macrillo has directed the chorus since 2010. She has been a singer in the chorus since our beginning in 1995 when she and four others founded the Chapter. She shares her 30 years of Sweet Adeline musical experience with us every week.
Elaine also sang with Kanandarque Chorus from 1982 to 1995 and was lead singer in a quartet called Jubilee.
She has served Seneca Soundwaves Chorus having spent time in administrative jobs including team leader, treasurer, show chairman, fund raising, and chorus grant writer in addition to being on the music team and lead section leader. She has won the Regional awards for Leadership (Nancy Field Leadership Award) and the Jackie Kraft Assistant Director Award. She served the International Organization in a position of Membership Development Representative assisting with the growth of nine new regional choruses in a period of eight years. Elaine has completed the process to be qualified as a Certified Director of Sweet Adelines International.
Dawn Crane has been the Assistant Director of the Chorus for six years. She also was a charter member of Seneca Soundwaves Chorus and has sung with the chorus for a total of 12 years.
Dawn was also a member of Kanandarque Chorus of Sweet Adelines during the years between 1982 and 1995 and sang with Elaine in a quartet called Jubilee.
